BMW has launched its redesigned 6 Series Coupe, on the back of the 6 Series Convertible which was released last month, the 2012 BMW 6 Series coupe has officially arrived. Its lines are tighter, its bite is more potent and it's heading to your local BMW dealership sometime this fall. Under the hood sits the same 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that our man Chris Paukert sampled in the convertible. It produces 400 horsepower between 5,500 rpm and 6,400 rpm, and a stout 450 pound-feet of torque from 1,750 rpm up through 4,500 rpm.

At launch, two engines will be available. The 640i features a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six that develops 315 hp (235 kW / 320 PS) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. When paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). Despite the impressive performance, the engine is relatively frugal as the average fuel consumption is 7.7 L/100km (36.7 mpg imp / 30.5 mpg US) and CO2 emissions are 179 g/km.

Inside, the newest 6-Series gets more in synch with the 5-Series sedans—including a highly detailed, wraparound feel for the instrument panel. The high-definition central display is freestanding and now measures 10.2 inches across, with a vivid, flat-screen-monitor look. The latest fourth-generation version of iDrive, which we no longer loathe, is standard.

Its unmistakable design language gives the new BMW 6 Series Coupe an aura of athletic elegance. In the new BMW 650i Coupe, a V8 powerplant with turbochargers positioned between the cylinder banks develops maximum output of 300 kW/407 hp. The new BMW 6 Series Coupe strikes an ideal balance between dynamic handling and ride comfort thanks to a newly developed chassis. The design: commanding presence and athletic elegance.
The new BMW 6 Series Coupe heralds the arrival of an exceptionally sporty and exclusive 2+2-seater in the premium segment of top-class Coupes. The new model's extra length and width over its predecessor model combine with its 5-millimetre lower height to produce a strikingly low-set and powerful de-sign. The new interpretation of the traditional BMW Coupe proportions is em-bellished by lines and surfaces inspired by the movement of waves. Flowing lines and harmonious curves create a feeling of athletic grace, complemented by extremely classy and eye-catching design features which underline the opulent character and elegant appearance of the two-door BMW.

The expressive front end is dominated by the large and slightly forward-slanting BMW kidney grille. The grille emphasises the car's sporting pedigree with a broad, flat design, and creates a visual connection with the engine nestl-ing behind. The kidney grille slats, angled slightly towards the top, lend addi-tional emphasis to the front end's "shark nose" character. The contour lines of the bonnet converge towards the kidney grille, forming a V-shape which is continued by the contours of the headlights, kidney and wide air intake to give a road-focused look. High-quality chrome elements and the LED units of the optional foglamps positioned in front of them guide the eye to the muscular wheel arches.

High-visibility innovation: Adaptive LED Headlights.
The new BMW 6 Series Coupe is equipped with bi-xenon headlights as standard. An accentuating trim element cuts across the top of the hallmark BMW twin round headlights to produce the intent look familiar from other BMW models. The optional Adaptive LED Headlights provide a fresh take on this established feature. The Adaptive LED Headlights for low beam and high beam contain LED light rings for the parking lights and daytime running lights, which are levelled off at the lower edge and overlapped at their top edge by an accent light - also featuring LEDs. The result is a stunning, distinctively BMW showcase for the innovative light technology below the surface. In addition, they also generate the low beam and high beam light from the two light rings. The light sources here are horizontal LED ribs positioned in the centre of the light rings. The brand's hallmark twin round headlight look is therefore ex-pressed even more strikingly not only with the daytime running lights switched on, but also when the headlights are activated in the dark.

However, the Adaptive LED Headlights are about more than just looking good; they also ensure the driver can see well. Their bright white light provides an intense and even illumination of the road ahead. From a colour perspective, the light comes much closer to natural daylight than that created by conven-tional halogen or xenon headlights, lending even reflective objects far greater contrast. The cornering element of the Adaptive LED Headlights is also tai-lored to the car's speed, steering angle and yaw rate, allowing the pivot of the headlights to adapt automatically to the line of the corner. Meanwhile, a light source positioned specially in the headlight housing generates the cornering light which, at low speeds, ensures illumination of the road surface in the direc-tion the car is turning. LED technology is also deployed for the direction indica-tors, each of which consists of eight LED units arranged in a row underneath the light rings. As well as enhancing visibility in the dark, the Adaptive LED Headlights thus also significantly improve the signalling effect of the car's lights.
Side view: elegant roofline, powerfully curved surfaces.

Tightly curved surfaces and character lines stretching the full length of the body define the side view of the BMW 6 Series Coupe. The forward-slanting BMW kidney grille is particularly clear from this angle. Despite its smooth curves and innovative pedestrian protection measures, the long bonnet still has a flat appearance. Its contour lines fan out wide and extend towards the rear. In combination with the car's typical Coupe proportions, this creates a particularly elegant, elongated silhouette.
The exterior design has been inspired by waves with clearly defined lines and volume formed around an object in flowing water. This gives the new BMW 6 Series Coupe a naturally powerful and sporty edge. The typical BMW swage line extends out from behind the front wheel arch, takes in the sporty gill feature and extends dynamically along the flank of the car to the rear. In so doing, it stretches the new BMW 6 Series Coupe visually and lends it a dy-namic yet elegant allure. The door handles are integrated precisely into the swage line. A further character line emerges from the swell of the front wheel arch, before dropping down between the gill and the door and then levelling out towards the rear, its path replicating a forward-surging wave. The door sill line underneath it and an additional crease give the lower edge of the body a light and sporty appearance.

The roofline of the new BMW 6 Series Coupe also swoops in an elegant, flat progression into the tail. It comes across as especially svelte when viewed from the side, creating a contrast typical of BMW Coupes between the power-ful body and light passenger compartment. Doors with frameless windows underline this impression. The chromed side window border emphasises the "counter-swing" at the foot of the C-pillar (known as the Hofmeister kink) with its particularly tight line.
Rear view: striking indications of dynamic and secure roadholding.

From the rear, the new BMW 6 Series Coupe exudes power, athleticism and solidity. Bulging wheel arches accentuate the wide track of the new car, offer-ing a hint of its impressive roadholding. Added to which, horizontal lines and the broadening impression of the car's shape as you follow it towards the rear paint a clear picture of the sporting performance waiting to be unlocked. The slightly concave lower section of the boot lid generates light and shade effects which lend an extra lightness to the rear of the car. The edges of the boot lid and the licence plate surround create a V-shape, which - similarly to the front of the car - steers the eye towards the road. The exhaust tailpipes are posi-tioned on either side of a diffusor-style apron. On the BMW 650i Coupe they are trapezoidal in shape while on the BMW 640i Coupe they are circular.

The two-part rear light clusters display the customary BMW L-shape in a par-ticularly wide rendition that extends far into the boot lid, while the swage line that flows into the rear lights forges a harmonious link between the side and the rear of the car. Inside the rear light clusters, two LED-powered light strips generate the familiar BMW night-time look, an effect that is reinforced by the L-shaped lower light unit. The direction indicators and brake lights are also LED-powered. The wide additional brake light is located in the upper edge of the boot lid.

Interior: driver-oriented cockpit, exclusive ambience.
The driver-oriented cockpit layout familiar from BMW models down the years and a dynamic forward-surging movement define the design of the interior. The centre section of the instrument panel - including the Control Display, the central air vent and the controls for the audio system and climate control - is angled slightly towards the driver. The gearshift lever is located on a surface that opens out towards the driver and is set lower than the front passenger side of the centre console. This structure is repeated in the central section of the instrument panel, further enhancing the driver-focused feel. The fluent transition between the centre console and instrument panel can be accentuat-ed with optional stitching in contrasting colour for the leather surfaces.

The horizontal structuring of the instrument panel is accentuated by an elec-troplated strip on the driver's side of the cabin. This is extended into the front-passenger side in the form of a subtle crease in the glove compartment. Meanwhile, powerfully taut waistline surfaces - which are carried forward into the instrument panel - embody the feeling of dynamic forward movement in-side the cabin. The decorative surface of the instrument panel extends into the centre console with an elegant, slightly curving sweep to lend the front-passenger side an exclusive allure.

The rear seats also provide their passengers with a very pleasant level of tour-ing comfort thanks to their individual-seat character and greater shoulder and elbowroom compared with the outgoing model. In addition, there is also more headroom for all the passengers, despite the reduced overall height of the car. The rear seat backrests can be specified as an option with a through-loading facility for a ski bag, allowing two pairs of skis to be transported in comfort. The luggage area can accommodate 460 litres (16.24 cu. ft) of luggage, which means that the BMW 6 Series Coupe can carry three 46-inch golf bags or two medium-sized hard-shell cases plus a flight case.

Optimised display, exclusive feel: instruments in black-panel technology, Control Display with flatscreen design.

The instrument cluster in black-panel technology combines state-of-the-art display technology with classic sports-car circular instruments. A high-resolution 9.2-inch display below the four dials includes the mileage counter, fuel consumption and Efficient Dynamics display, as well as feedback from the driver assistance systems and Check/Control messages. This black-panel technology, which made its debut in the BMW 7 Series, is also used for the climate control displays in the centre section of the instrument panel.

In addition to the Controller with direct menu control buttons positioned on the console centre, the standard-fitted iDrive operating system also comes with a new monitor in exclusive flatscreen design. This freestanding Control Display is located in a prominent and optimal position within the instrument panel, and creates the feeling of a powerboat cockpit rising up dynamically in front of the driver and front passenger. The central Control Display in the new BMW 6 Series Coupe has a 7-inch-diameter screen as standard. However, if the optional Navigation system Professional is specified, this is upgraded to a 10.2-inch version - the largest on-board monitor in the segment - bordered by a high-class electroplated chrome surround.

The exterior paintwork of the new BMW 6 Series Coupe can be ordered in a choice of eight metallic and two non-metallic shades, allowing customers to highlight both the sporting credentials of the Coupe and its modern and ele-gant character. The standard Dakota leather trim is available in three colour variants, the optional Exclusive Nappa leather in a choice of four shades. As an alternative to the standard Softskin surfacing, the instrument panel, door and side panels can be specified with Exclusive Nappa leather trim. Also, double French seams in a contrasting colour matching the seat covers can be ordered in place of the black French seams. The interior trim comes as standard in High-gloss Black, but can alternatively be ordered as an option in Brushed Aluminium, Poplar Grain Grey or American Oak high-gloss. Optional ceramic applications for the audio system and air conditioning controls, gearshift lever and iDrive Controller lend the interior an extra flourish.

Outstanding seat comfort, comprehensive safety equipment, body with excellent torsional rigidity.
The lightweight seats with integrated belt system developed for the new BMW 6 Series range are available in three variants. The integrated belt system makes it easier both to reach the belt and to climb into the rear of the car. The standard-fitted driver and front passenger seats boast electric adjustment for the seat height and fore/aft position, backrest angle and head restraint height - including memory function - as well as seat heating and an easy-entry function to facilitate access to the rear compartment.

The optional sports seats offer optimal lateral support with their raised seat and backrest sides, and come fitted with integrated head restraints as well as manually adjustable thigh support. Comfort seats are another option, adding comfort head restraints, lumbar support, and electric adjustment of the thigh support, backrest width and angle of the upper backrest segment. Offering an alternative to the standard Dakota leather upholstery is Exclusive Nappa leath-er with extended features. For the sports seats and comfort seats, there is the added option of active seat ventilation. Plus, comfort seats can also be speci-fied with the active seat function.

All the seat variants available for the new BMW 6 Series Coupe come with crash-activated head restraints. The standard safety specification also includes front airbags, seat frame-mounted side airbags, side curtain head airbags for both rows of seats, three-point inertia-reel seatbelts on all seats, belt force limiters and belt latch tensioners, as well as ISOFIX child seat attachments in the rear. To optimise passive pedestrian protection, in some national markets the new BMW 6 Series Coupe is equipped with an active bonnet system; in the event of a collision with a pedestrian, a pyrotechnic actuator mechanism automatically raises the front and rear of the bonnet.

The new BMW 6 Series Coupe is fitted with robust load-path structures, pre-cisely defined deformation zones and an extremely rigid safety passenger cell. These safety features ensure maximum occupant protection in all types of collision. Carefully targeted advances in the use of materials have increased the strength and lowered the weight of the body with the aim of enhancing both the safety and agility of the car. Indeed, the static torsional rigidity of the new Coupe is around 53 per cent greater than that of its predecessor. In the interests of weight optimisation, the doors, bonnet and front axle spring mounts are all aluminium, while the front side panels are made from plastic and the boot lid from glass fibre composite.

Peak torque of 600 Newton metres (443 lb-ft) is served up between 1,750 and 4,500 rpm. The sporting performance attributes of the V8 engine enable the new BMW 650i Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, leaving the engine electronics to call a halt to proceedings at 250 km/h (155 mph). Both the BMW 650i Coupe and BMW 640i Coupe transfer their power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed Sports automatic gearbox. Among the systems fitted as standard are Brake Energy Regeneration, Electric Power Steering (EPS), the on-demand operation of ancillary components, intelligent lightweight construction and low-rolling-resistance tyres. The new BMW 640i Coupe is also fitted with automatic active air flap control and the Auto Start-Stop function. When the driver draws to a standstill at junctions or in a traffic jam, the engine is automatically switched off to prevent unnecessary fuel consumption at idle. The driving experience in the new BMW 6 Series Coupe is defined by sporty handling characteristics. However, the cutting-edge chassis technology of the two-door car also delivers impressive ride comfort. The chassis set-up is geared to the requirements of drivers with sporting in-tentions, although the dampers also respond sensitively to bumps in the road surface under high lateral acceleration.

Available as options for both model variants are Dynamic Damper Control and the Adaptive Drive system, which also includes Dynamic Drive active roll stabi-lisation. The electronically controlled dampers adapt to both the nature of the road surface and the driver's style to prevent unwanted movements in the car body, while an innovative damping system adjusts the compression and re-bound settings continuously and independently from one another. For exam-ple, a stiff chassis setting can be impressively combined with comfortable re-sponses to unevenness in the road surface. The Electric Power Steering system with Servotronic function delivering speed-sensitive power assistance is unique in the BMW 6 Series Coupe seg-ment and combines customary BMW precision, comfort and efficiency. In con-trast to conventional mechanical/hydraulic systems, the power assistance is provided by an electric motor, which only goes to work - and therefore uses energy - if power assistance is required or desired by the driver.

In addition, the new BMW 6 Series Coupe is the first car in its class that can be ordered, as an option, with Integral Active Steering. This system combines the Active Steering system for the front axle - already available for the predeces-sor model - with a steering rear axle, allowing the steering angle and power assistance to be controlled at both the front and the rear with the help of elec-tric motors. Precisely harmonised wheel deflections pave the way for extraor-dinary agility in dynamic driving situations. Also, Integral Active Steering displays an impressively deft touch around twisty mountain passes and in city traffic. The rear wheels follow the same steering movements as the front wheels, enabling the car to follow the course set by the driver with even greater immediacy and precision.

With Drive Dynamic Control, the virtues of sportiness and comfort can take precedence as the situation demands. Drivers can make their own choice of suspension settings in NORMAL, SPORT and SPORT+ modes using a button on the centre console. In the new BMW 640i Coupe, ECO PRO mode can also be activated. If the Dynamic Damper Control or Adaptive Drive option has been specified, the COMFORT setting can also be used. In this mode, as well as adjusting the accelerator pedal progression, engine responses, power steering characteristics, DSC response thresholds and the shift dynamics of the automatic gearbox, Drive Dynamic Control also tweaks the damper re-sponses and, if necessary, the roll stabilisation settings. The lightweight, floating-calliper brakes with inner-vented discs are easy to use with precision, and their effectiveness is reinforced by Dynamic Stability Control (DSC). Opel’s fate may be a tad uncertain in terms of financial and corporate business sense, but that’s not keeping them from working on and unveiling new concepts.

Their biggest achievement on that front from recent years will be seen at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show which starts next week and it is called the RAK.

The RAK Concept is a very funky looking EV car and just in case you didn’t think the company’s Ampera isn’t green enough we’re told there’s quite a bit of production potential in it.

The small cockpit seems to be pretty similar to the layout used in the VW and Audi EVs that use a slightly offset seating layout.

As always with big Citroen cars there is the amazing Hydractive suspension so comfort is key in any matter of driving conditions. Also underneath the amazing looking body there is a plugin hybrid layout that features a very special 2 liter V6 petrol engine, an electric motor and a seven speed dual clutch electronic gearbox. Probably some batteries in there as well. Citroen have published some performance figures but really, who cares?

The concept of this Super-GT is based on the vision of combining maximum driving performance with an entirely new design and high exclusiveness. The result is a breathtaking and beautiful sports coupé with 753 hp in a limited edition of only 25 cars world-wide. Thereby, each automobile will be as individual as its future owner. "We exclusively make the cars to order and the delivery quantity for 2010 is already sold out", says CEO, Dipl. Ing. (FH) Markus Schuster.

Based on the Mercedes SL 600 the car runs on a 6.0-liter bi-turbo V12 engine that gets the car from 0 to 100 km/h with up to 1150 Nm of torque. However, once you go faster than 100 km/h, the car will make use of 1320 Nm. Top speed is 352 km/h (218.7 mph).

Carlsson CEO Markus Schuster wanted his company to build a car that was safe enough for the road as well as the track. "Therefore, we deliberately wanted to develop a car which is highly exclusive on the one hand and can be used for the daily journey to office on the other hand," Schuster said. "All security-relevant regulations such as pedestrian protection, crash behaviour, ESP, ABS, Airbag systems are identical to large series editions with most modern standards."

Engineers installed a C-Tronic adaptive and variable suspension to make the car more responsive on curves, but comfortable on straight lines. All four lightweight 20-inch wheels combine to weigh less than 45 kilograms, and come wrapped in high performance tires. 405 mm slotted brake discs are used up front, along with 380 mm discs in back.

The performance data of the six litre V12 Bi-Turbo is impressive. The high-performance aggregate with a motor management optimisation patented by Carlsson renders 753 hp (554 kW) and allows fast acceleration as well as smooth travels at lower speeds. Also responsible for the perfect performance evolvement is the elaborately developed stainless steel exhaust system with ends in four edgy pipes at the back. Alfa Giulietta

Alfa Romeo Giulietta has seemingly decided that selling cars to people who make decisions with their hearts alone is not enough, and is now trying to appeal to those that pick their vehicles with their heads as well. The introduction of the clever and impressively efficient MultiAir engines has taken the brand a long way towards this goal, but the new Giulietta shows that the company is letting this sensible ethos creep into the rest of its departments as well. However, it is not going to forgo lightly the passion that has got it where it is today. But this two-pronged approach to making the car has left it slightly confused.

This is best seen in the two quickest of the five engines that will be available from launch - the 168bhp 1.4-litre MultiAir that is expected to account for a large chunk of Giulietta sales, and the 232bhp 1.7-litre Cloverleaf that takes the role of VW Golf GTI baiter.

The tussle between head and heart is won by the latter in the case of the more sensible 1.4-litre engined model. It is the same highly impressive unit that sits in the Mito, where it powers the hot hatch Cloverleaf version, but here it takes on a more restrained role. Start stop technology and long gearing ratios show that Alfa is very focussed on the eco credentials of the Giulietta, and for the large part they are successful, especially if the 48.7mpg figure proves attainable over long-term use.

However, they also blunt some of the fun of the engine that is available in the Giulietta's smaller sibling, the Mito. The long gearing ratio means it is tricky or impossible to pull away in anything but first, necessitating more shifting of gears than is otherwise preferable, and the stop start system is prone to frustrating traits - not allowing the engine to restart of its own accord should you undo your seatbelt to reach out of the window for example. It is impressively smooth once underway though, and these irritations are ones with which one can most likely learn to live.

Sadly, the head seems to have won the battle on the Cloverleaf version, with it not quite seeming as fast as its 232bhp and 0-62mph time of 6.8 seconds would imply. This is due largely to the lack of outrageous styling touches that would suit a clearly powerful car. A little more in the way of sports seats and details in the cabin would accompany the good looking alloys and striking lines on the outside.

Overall the Cloverleaf feels like a road-focussed car that goes quickly, albeit in a highly competent manner, and one of the strangest, but perhaps most telling quirks it has is the hazard lights that come on under hard braking. An admirable and sometimes useful safety feature on the lesser models in the range, but a strange addition to a car that may well be bought by people wishing to take it to the occasional track day. Should you do so, and ignore the hazard lights, then you'll find the Cloverleaf a rewarding drive, with the electronic differential and 'Dynamic' setting making the car very settled and responsive through tight and quick corners alike.

Alfa's DNA system, with 'Dynamic', 'Normal' and 'All Weather' modes has shown its flaws in the past, and is unable to disguise them in this car either. Having three modes seems excessive, with the 'All Weather' mode largely irrelevant as it kills the power and doesn't increase comfort to a level that makes it worthwhile. Limiting the options to two would make it less complicated

Lamborghini offers some of the most exotic sports cars in the world, and with the latest Gallardo LP 560-4 coupe, that is no exception. This new "entry level" Lamborghini coupe delivers 560 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 398 ft-lbs of torque at 6,500 rpm via a 5.2-liter V10 engine, making sure to deliver on the "Lamborghini experience" in full.

The 560 portion of the car's name reflects its horsepower, while the "4" designation indicates all-wheel-drive. The "4" was likely added to the name in anticipation of the forthcoming rear-wheel-drive variant, which will likely end in "2."

The latest engine not only gained power and displacement, it also features a new "Iniezione Diretta Stratificata" direct injection system. Despite its clearly increased output, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced by a staggering 18 percent. With the improved fuel efficiency the LP 560-4 is capable of 12/20 city/highway mpg.

The enlarged and clearly redesigned cooling intakes meet the demands of augmented engine. The front spoiler, positioned low between the air intakes, improves aerodynamic equilibrium at high speeds.

The redesigned four-wheel-drive system, an improved suspension design, and optimized aerodynamics all contribute an improved driving experience. A weight reduction of 44 lbs and decreased friction between the components also enhance performance.

The Gallardo LP 560-4 fulfills the not yet obligatory European pedestrian safety regulations, without compromising the look of the car.

The automated e-gear transmission has been completely redesigned for the LP 560-4. Gear change time reduced by 40 percent, and the driver may choose between five different driving and changing programs. The most performance-oriented "CORSA" setting not only affects shift speed -- it also directs the engine for maximum acceleration. The 'Thrust Mode' ensures maximum acceleration from neutral while the angle of the throttle valve and the clutch are optimized.

An optional carbon-ceramic-disc braking system makes use of eight-piston Brembo calipers up front, and four-piston calipers at he rear. Rotor size is 14.4 inches at the front and 14 inches at the rear.

Bi-Xenon headlights provide plenty of illumination at night, while LED daytime running lights give the car a more aggressive and high-tech look.

PARIS - Peran minyak sebagai sumber bahan bakar utama bakal bisa digantikan. Pasalnya, dalam beberapa tahun lagi kita akan dapat merasakan kecanggihan sebuah terobosan baru dari dunia teknologi kendaraan yang bisa berjalan menggunakan tenaga udara.

Kendaraan canggih dengan kapasitas 5 tempat duduk akan segera di pasarkan. Pemasaran dari mobil ini sangat terbatas karena mengingat produksinya juga terbatas.

OneCAT, nama kendaraan tersebut sudah dirancang oleh ilmuan dan investor Prancis Guy Negre. Kendaraan tersebut berbodi kaca fiber dengan beratnya hanya 350 kilogram.

Namun harganya sangat terjangkau yaitu hanya 2.500 Euro atau Rp 33.715.000 (kurs Rp 13.486). Cara kerja bahan bakar udara dimana tekanan udara yang terdapat dalam tangki fiber karbon akan membentuk tenaga yang dapat menggerakan mesin pada mobil.

Untuk perjalanan yang jauh, compresor udara mengendalikan piston supaya dapat menghasilkan dorongan.
Negre mengatakan, karyanya ini dapat menempuh ribuan kilometer perjalanan atau sama seperti yang dilakukan oleh mobil-mobil lain. “Pembeli pertama adalah orang yang pasti mengenal atau pecinta lingkungan. Namun yang terpenting mobil ini akan lebih irit,” ujar investor dari Prancis, Guy Negre.

Sejarah permobilan mencatat bahwa salah satu penemuan terbaik di sektor pembangkit daya adalah mesin rotary yang dibuat oleh Felix Wankel. Mesin ini terbilang unik, karena pistonnya merangkap sebagai ruang bakar dan memiliki gerak berputar (berotasi), bukan seperti mesin lainnya yang lazim bergerak vertikal ataupun horisontal. Awalnya, mesin rotary dipasang pada pesawat tempur Jerman di era ‘50-an. Baru kemudian, teknologi ini dilirik produsen otomotif, seperti GM, Mercedes-Benz, Rolls-Royce, dan Mazda. Namun, di antara para manufaktur tersebut, di tangan Mazda-lah lompatan terbesar teknologi mesin rotary terjadi. Melalui Mazda Cosmo Concept, di ajang Tokyo Motor Show 1963, mesin ini menyihir publik karena meski berkapasitas kecil, tenaga dan torsinya cukup besar. Tradisi itu berlanjut hingga kini, di mana mesin rotary adalah jantung pacu wajib untuk mobil sport Mazda RX-series.

Seiring rumor akan hadirnya RX-7 anyar dan RX-8 terbaru di 2010, Mazda terlebih dahulu menggulirkan sumber tenaganya. Mesin ini merupakan generasi anyar jantung pacu berkode 16X, yang diklaim lebih bertenaga dan lebih irit, berkat adanya perubahan desain dan penyematan teknologi baru.

Tahun 2009 ini pun selubung misteri RENESIS (akronim darai Rotary Engine GENESIS) terbaru mulai tersingkap. Ubahan pertama dapat dilihat dari disematkannya teknologi khas Mazda, DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition). Pada dasarnya, sistem injeksi ini akan mencampur terlebih dahulu udara dan bensin, sebelum disuntikkan ke ruang bakar. Tujuannya, agar torsi tetap terjaga di segala putaran. Walhasil, karena torsi yang dihasilkan konstan, mobil pun akan berakselerasi lebih cepat.

Ubahan berlanjut dengan penggunaan dua busi tiap silinder. Selain itu, jarak antar busi dan jarak busi ke ruang bakar juga diubah. Cara ini dilakukan agar pembakaran stabil. Sebagaimana diketahui, piston pada mesin rotary juga berfungsi sebagai ruang bakar. Kondisi ini mengakibatkan besar kemungkinan terjadi ketidaksempurnaan pembakaran saat putaran tinggi, karena piston bergerak terlalu cepat dan waktu percikan api busi tidak tepat. Lalu, untuk mengeliminasi overlap (bentroknya arus masuk BBM dengan aliran keluar sisa pembakaran), dimensi piston dan cangkangnya diperbesar.

Isyu tentang mesin rotary yang boros oli mesin juga dapat diatasi dengan mengubah dan memperbesar jalur pelumasan. Penggunaan oli lebih efisien karena dapat menjangkau area yang lebih luas ketimbang cara lama, di mana oli mesin berkumpul di satu dua titik pelumasan. Dari perubahan yang ada, bisa dipastikan terjadi kenaikan kapasitas mesin. Diperkirakan, mesin baru ini hadir dalam konfigurasi twin rotor, 800 cc x 2 (sebelumnya 654 cc x 2), dengan bahan bakar lebih hemat 20% dan menghembuskan tenaga hingga 270 hp (dari sebelumnya 260 hp).

Di beberapa ajang modifikasi baik di Jakarta maupun di Bandung mobil Daihatsu Feroza ini kerap kali terlihat turut meramaikan sebagai peserta kontes. Begitu juga dengan final battle Clas Mild Accelera Auto Contest pada 18-19 Desember lalu, Feroza milik Pian Herdiansyah turun dengan tampilan yang banyak mencuri perhatian para pengunjung dan juga peserta kontes lainnya.

Bagaimana tidak, mobil yang menganut paham ‘’too damn low’’ ini memang terlihat amat menyentuh aspal alias ceper abis …. Diamater pelek gambot berdimensi 22” keluaran Continental yang menempel di kaki-kaki juga seakan ditengelamkan oleh rangka bodinya yang turun cukup drastis. Jadi jangan ditanya apakan mobil ini masih cukup nyaman bila untuk dikendarai sehari-hari ….

Awal garapannya memang mobil ini ingin memilki tampilan ekstrem yang sedikit berbeda dan terlihat sedikit unik, oleh karena itu pria asal Bogor ini pun mengarap kendaraanya dengan konsep ceper yang memang terbukti dapat membuat mobil menjadi perhatian banyak orang. Kaki-kaki pastinya telah banyak digarap guna menurunkan sasis rangka mobil ini hingga benar-benar low , sedangkan suspensi yang telah di custom ulang pun ternyata mendukung mobil ini kian merebah ke aspal.

Untuk urusan sektor eksteriornya, Iyank menggunakan perangkat bodikit yang telah di custom ulang olehnya mulai dari bagian bumper depan hingga bumper belakang dan juga grillnya. Sedangakan sektor lampu-lampunya masih menggunakan lampu original Feroza. Guna mengejar perhatian Iyank juga tak segan-segan mengelir seluruh bagian eksteriornya dengan warna Yellow yang memang cukup membuatnya terlihat cerah, bahkan ia juga memasangkan sunroof di bagian atasnya yang sedikit tertutup denga roof rak keluaran Thule. Keseluruhan pengerjaan sektor luarnya ini ia serahkan pada workshop Mauser Design.

Langsung beranjak ke bagian dalam atau interiornya, sektor joknya telah dibungkus full lapisan MB- Tech, sedangkan bagian roda kemudi-nya dan shift knobnya telah kepunyaan MOMO yang kemudian dikolaborasikan dengan pedal set dari DAD. Guna memberikan kesan yang lebih glamor pada tampilan dalam mobil ini, Iyang juga turut menyematkan instalasi intertaiment home theater berupa beberapa perangkat hiburan seperti audio, PS2, dan juga TV LCD berdimensi besar. Alhasil bisa ada hiburan dikala ia sedang kongkow bareng dengan teman-temanya. Tapi tak hanya itu saja, dikarenakan gemar dengan mengendarai motor pengilas tanah alias gastrack maka ia pun turut memamerkan beberapa diecast motor gastrack di bagasi belakang tepat di depan layar TV LCDnya.

Saat bertandang mengikuti kontes kemarin, Iyank pun sukses merebut beberapa nominasi yang diantaranya adalah The Biggest Screen on Car , The Lowest Body Kit dan juga Winner of Clas Mild Car Design Contest karena ia menggusung cutting stiker yang bertemakan Clas Mild branding.

September 2010 silam dalam gelaran Paris Motor Show, Ford memperlihatkan priview dari seri WRC challenger, tetapi seri tersebut memang dipamerkan khusus oleh team design Ford Eropa. Saat ini, produsen asal Amerika itu akhirnya benar-benar memunculkan skema warna resmi dari Ford Fiesta RS WRC 2011 ke publik, dan rencananya akan mulai dipamerkan di FIA World Rally Championship.

Secara resmi pasukan WRC 2011 ini akan datang dengan nama dan logo baru. Tepatnya, seri ini akan ikut berlaga sebagai team Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally. Khusus untuk team Abu Dhabi, produsen juga telah menyiapkan design khusus hanya untuk kompetisi ini.

Ide-ide design fantastis Fiesta RS WRC diambil dari Fiesta road car dan Fiesta S2000 rally car, yang telah dikolaborasi dengan partner rally M-Sport di Inggris. Demi pemenuhan standar regulasi, Fiesta RS WRC juga dilengkapi dengan transmisi four-wheel dan mesin turbocharged 1.6-litre, yang diadopsi dari Ford EcoBoost

Team designer dan teknisi-teknisi pengembangan produk dari Ford telah menjalin kedekatan dan bekerjasama dengan team M-Sport secara efesien. Tujuannya tentu saja untuk memproduksi kendaraan yang mampu berlaga di kompetisi dunia, selain itu juga mampu merefleksikan kekaguman akan gaya 'kinetic design' yang juga sejalan dengan seri-seri Ford saar ini “ terang Gerard Quinn, kepala Ford untuk kawasan Eropa.

Pada awal February nanti akan diumumkan mengenai spesifikasi lengkap dari Fiesta RS WRC. Seminggu setelahnya, barulah akan dilanjutkan dengan masa uji coba untuk debutnya pada Rally Sweden yang akan memasuki putaran pertama pada 10-13 Februari 2011

Selaku produsen sport car asal negeri Sakura, rupanya Nissan telah mempersiapkan akan kehadiran generasi terbaru dari GT-Rnya yang rencanya akan dikeluarkan beberapa saat lagi. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan persiapan Nissan dalam menyambut gelaran otomotif ternama di Inggris, PistonHEads Performance Car Show yang akan diselengarakan dalam acara Autosport International Show pada bulan January ini.

Nissan telah mempersiapkan jajaran pasukannya termasuk GT-R 2011 terbarunya yang akan mengusung power sebesar 530 hp dan memiliki 612 Nm maksimum torsi yang diklaim Nissan mampu berakselerasi dari titik 0 sampi dengan 62 mph hanya dalam hitungan 3 detik saja.

Tak hanya GT-R 2011nya saja yang akan menghadiri acara itu, namun jajaran generasi fairlady dari Nissan 370Z juga akan ikut diturunkan Nissan dengan dua modelnya, Roadster dan versi Coupe. Hal ini berbarengan dengan perayaan 40 tahun hadirnya generasi Nissan Z di Inggris. Kedua 370Z copue dan roadster yang kan diboyong Nissan telah dipersenjatai dengan mesin V6 3.7L yang memiliki tanaga sebesar 328 hp.

Tak hanya sekadar generasi mobil-mobil sport car umumnya saja yang didatangkan oleh Nissan bahkan kendaran sportcar yang memiliki spec khusus untuk mengikuti kejuaran juga turut diboyong oleh Nissan. Kali ini datang dari versi GT-R GT1 yang merupakan Nissan GT-R racikan Sumo Power’s yang telah banyak memenangkan kejuaran FIA GT GT1 Championship.

Selanjutnya Nissan juga memboyong generasi Z versi drag carnya yang digarap khusus oleh John Bradshaw yang mampu menghasilkan output power sebesar 2,000 hp meskipun hanya dibekali dengan mesin yang sama dengan mesin V6 yang merupakan mesin standar 370Z. Mobil ini akan datang dengan menggunakan design warna body two tone perpaduan merah dan silver yang merupakan warna terbarunya di 2011 ini.

Teknologi di industri permobilan mengalami perkembangan pesat. Berbagai inovasi dihadirkan untuk memberikan kenyamanan, keamanan, hingga menciptakan pengendaraan yang lebih berkualitas. Berbicara teknologi, banyak yang dimulai dari mimpi. Misalkan saja dulu tidak pernah terpikir mobil dapat parkir sendiri atau antar-kendaraan bisa 'berkomunikasi' untuk menghindari kecelakaan. Tapi, sekarang semuanya sudah terwujud, bahkan hingga ke teknologi yang memungkinkan pengereman dilakukan secara otomatis, ketika berhadapan dengan kendaraan lain. Semua teknologi itu tentunya membuat mobil semakin bermanfaat bagi kehidupan manusia dan lingkungan.

Parkir Pintar (Active Park Assist)
Lexus termasuk perusahaan yang pertama kali mengaplikasikan teknologi parkir pintar ini. Terakhir, Ford Motor Company (FMC) mengenalkan Active Park Assist yang akan diaplikasi pada Lincoln MKS sedan dan MKT crossover. Teknologi ini menggunakan sistem sensor ultrasonic dan electric power assisted steering (EPAS) untuk memposisikan secara otomatis kendaraan, dengan cara mengkalkulasi dan mengoptimalkan sudut lingkar kemudi saat melakukan parkir paralel.

Pengemudi cukup menekan tombol Active Park Assist dan mobil bisa secara cepat, mudah, dan aman memarkir kendaraan tanpa perlu menyentuh lingkar kemudi. Tampilan visual atau audio akan memberitahukan pengendara terhadap jarak dengan mobil lain, obyek, atau orang.

Pengereman Otomatis dan Pre-Crash
Volvo menghadirkan teknologi keselamatan yang disebut Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake (CWAB). Fitur terbaru ini akan mendeteksi posisi kendaraan di depan melalui radar dan sensor kamera, lalu akan memicu sistem pengereman secara otomatis, bila pengemudi tidak menyadari adanya potensi kecelakaan.

Jarak efektif dengan kendaraan lain yang bisa ditangkap radar dan kamera sekitar 150 m. Ketika jaraknya mendekat, sistem ini akan memberi peringatan kepada pengemudi. Bila pengemudi tidak merespon, maka CWAB secara otomatis akan mengerem kendaraan. XC60 juga mengaplikasi City Safety yang dilengkapi sensor laser. Sensor ini mampu memonitor berbagai obyek pada jarak lebih dari 10 meter dan apabila membaca adanya persimpangan dan kemacetan lalu-lintas di dalam kota, pesan sinyal akan disampaikan kepada komputer agar kecepatan XC60 dikurangi. Misalnya, di kecepatan di atas 15 kpj, komputer secara otomatis akan menekan rem 50% apabila terdapat kendaraan yang melaju pelan atau berhenti di depan dan tidak diketahui pengemudi.

Toyota juga memiliki teknologi yang hampir serupa dan dinamakan Front-side Pre-crash Safety System dan Pre-crash Seatback, yang dipakai Toyota Crown. Inovasi Toyota ini mampu memprediksi secara akurat skenario akan terjadinya tabrakan dengan menggunakan gelombang radar yang dipancarkan secara diagonal ke kanan dan ke kiri kendaraan. Hal ini untuk mendeteksi kendaraan yang melaju kencang dari persimpangan jalan.

Pre-Crash system juga mengendalikan banyak hal, seperti pengatur sandaran kursi dan sabuk pengaman penumpang depan dan belakang. Sistem ini juga akan menegakkan sandaran kursi agar airbag bisa memberikan perlindungan maksimal. Pre-Crash Intelligent Head restraint disiapkan untuk mengurangi risiko cidera leher akibat hentakan dari belakang.

Reduksi Emisi NOx
Mazda mencatatkan CX-7 sebagai mobil penumpang pertama di Jepang yang menggunakan Urea Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) untuk mesin diesel. Tujuannya jelas, Mazda ingin mengubah persepsi bahwa SUV menjadi penghasil emisi gas buang terbesar. Melalui teknologi baru ini, pembakaran mesin MZR-CD 2.2L turbo diesel yang menghasilkan sisa Nitrous Oxide (NOx) akan dibersihkan melalui penyemprotan urea cair. Penggunaan sistem ini berdampak pada konsumsi bahan bakar yang lebih efisien dan menekan emisi CO2 (dari mesin bensin). Berkat teknologi SCR, CX-7 facelift bisa melenggang dengan sempurna untuk lolos dari regulasi emisi Euro5.

SCR dan urea cair ini disimpan di tempat khusus di belakang dengan tidak mengurangi ruang penumpang belakang. Untunglah mesin diesel CX-7 sudah rendah emisi sehingga tangki penyimpanan urea cair berukuran kecil. Urea cair ini merupakan zat kimia yang tidak berbahaya dan umum digunakan sebagai pelengkap pada pelembab kulit dan krim pelembut tangan.

Pengendali Pasokan Oksigen di Ruang Bakar
Selama ini pengaturan pasokan bahan bakar diatur seiring pijakan pedal akselerator, sehingga kendali pasokan oksigen diatur sesuai bukaan katup pada throttle di ujung saluran masuk atau besar kecilnya celah katup masuk. Gerakan buka-tutup katup ini memiliki durasi yang berlangsung konstan. Namun, gerakan konstan ini terkadang tidak sesuai kebutuhan mesin, karena pada saat tertentu mesin terbebani, yang membuatnya kehilangan daya optimum.

Untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut, Fiat melakukan riset yang menghasilkan sebuah sistem yang dapat mengubah gerak katup dari konstan menjadi variabel atau sesuai kebutuhan. Fiat mulai memperkenalkan rancangan ini untuk pertama kalinya pada 1960 dan kini telah disempurnakan menjadi teknologi MultiAir. Prinsip kerjanya terkonsentrasi pada pergerakan katup pasokan masuk udara dalam mengatur jumlah udara ke ruang bakar. Dengan mengandalkan pergerakan piston dan camshaft yang akan mengerakan katup saat piston di posisi hisap (siklus 4-tak yang pertama), sebuah solenoid akan mengatur durasi katup masuk tersebut.

Sejauh ini, teknologi pengaturan buka-tutup katup sebenarnya telah banyak dikembangkan oleh manufaktur lain. Sebut saja, 4-valve technonolgy dari Mercedes atau VANOS (Variable Nockenwellen Steuerung) dan Valvetronic milik BMW. Dari ranah manufaktur Jepang, nama VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing) dari Toyota atau VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) kepunyaan Honda, serta MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system). Namun, kebanyakan teknologi itu memakai sistem elektronik sebagai kendali rangkaiannya, dengan menggunakan ECU terpisah serta aktuator yang disematkan pada ujung camshaft dan cara ini memiliki tingkat kerumitan cukup tinggi. Hal inilah yang lantas disederhanakan Fiat dengan memanfaatkan oli mesin.

Berkat MultiAir, tenaga puncak mobil diklaim naik sekitar 10%. Tidak hanya itu, torsi pada putaran mesin rendah meningkat hingga 15% karena udara masuk lebih banyak. Kerugian mekanis akibat gesekan antar komponen mesin (pumping loss) juga berkurang hingga 10%, diikuti turunnya output emisi CO2. Dengan cara ini pula, konsumsi BBM terpangkas 25% dibanding mesin lain dengan kapasitas dan jumlah silinder sama, dan menekan emisi gas buang karbon monoksida 40% serta nitrogen oksida 60%. Rencananya, teknologi MultiAir ini diterapkan pada mesin 16-katup 1,4 liter milik Alfa Romeo MiTo di akhir 2009.

Pelacak Pejalan Kaki dan Pengendara Sepeda
BMW Group Research & Technology bekerjasama dengan beberapa institut riset di Jerman mengembangkan teknologi Car-2-X Communication. Teknologi ini diciptakan untuk menghindarkan mobil dari kemungkinan menabrak pejalan kaki atau pengendara sepeda yang berjalan di sela-sela mobil-mobil yang sedang terparkir. Pencegahan terjadinya insiden kecelakaan itu didapat melalui penerimaan data dan teknologi pelacakan, termasuk kerjasama sistem sensor antara kendaraan dan transponder yang hasilnya membuat pejalan kaki bisa teridentifikasi.

Proyek yang dalam bahasa Jerman disebut 'AMULETT' tersebut dibiayai Kementerian Negara Ekonomi, Infrastruktur, Transportasi, dan Teknologi Jerman selama tiga tahun. Dalam mengerjakannya, BMW menggandeng berbagai pihak seperti Continental Safety Engineering International GmbH, Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, Institute for High Frequency Engineering at Munich’s Technical University, dan ZENTEC GmbH.

Sistem Car-2-X Communication menggunakan RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) yang di masa depan akan terintegrasi dengan tas sekolah, telepon mobil, atau tongkat berjalan. Secara singkat cara kerjanya, mobil akan mengidentifikasi sinyal elektromagnet yang dipacarkan transponder pada frekuensi 2,4 GHz dan data tersebut diolah melalui tampilan visual, sehingga pengemudi mengetahui posisi pejalan kaki meskipun tidak terlihat.

Layar Terpisah (Splitview)
Mercedes-Benz memahami keinginan antara pengemudi dan penumpang depan yang berbeda dalam menikmati monitor yang terdapat pada kendaraan. Untuk itu, generasi S-class berikutnya akan memiliki fitur yang disebut Splitview Comand Display. Teknologi baru yang dibuat melalui kerjasama dengan Bosch ini menjadikan monitor pada dashboard dapat menampilkan tayangan berbeda, tergantung posisi pengemudi dan penumpang depan.

Misalnya, pengemudi menginginkan peta navigasi, sedangkan penumpang depan secara bersamaan menginginkan memutar film DVD favoritnya untuk menghilangkan kejenuhan saat berkendara, maka layar yang sama akan menampilkan dua tampilan berbeda. Layar bekerja dengan cara menyisipkan sebuah filter yang akan mengatur pixel di dalam LCD untuk menampilkan citra tertentu dari sudut pandang yang berbeda. Dengan demikian, pengemudi akan tetap berkonsentrasi terhadap navigasi agar tidak tersesat di jalan, sementara penumpang dapat menggunakan remote control untuk menikmati fasilitas hiburan dan headphone di telinganya.

Manajemen Lalu-Lintas
Sebuah cara baru untuk mengurangi kemacetan lalu-lintas diperkenalkan Audi melalui sistem barunya yang disebut Travolution. Perangkat lunak yang menghabiskan dana riset sekitar 1,2 juta Euro ini memungkinkan pemilik Audi mendapatkan informasi mengenai lampu lalu-lintas: kapan hijau atau merah. Dari informasi yang didapat itu, kendaraan dapat menghitung jarak dan menjaga kecepatan menjelang lampu lalu-lintas sehingga akan mengurangi kondisi 'start & stop' saat menunggu lampu merah.

Proyek Travolution itu mendapat dukungan dari departemen lalu-lintas kota Ingolstadt, Jerman, karena akan mengurangi durasi berhenti kendaraan, sehingga kemacetan lalu-lintas bisa dikurangi. Sistem kerjanya, modul komunikasi yang dipasang di lampu lalu-lintas akan mengirimkan informasi pada mobil mengenai kapan lampu hijau menyala. Sedangkan sistem komputer di kendaraan akan menghitung berapa kecepatan yang harus dilakukan pengemudi agar pada saat melintas di lampu lintas yang dituju dalam keadaan 'hijau'. Informasi divisualkan melalui menu multimedia interface di dalam kendaraan. Cara ini juga selain mengurangi frekuensi berhenti, dapat menurunkan konsumsi bahan bakar dan emisi gas buang CO2.

Airbag Penumpang Belakang
Pemasangan airbag untuk pengemudi dan penumpang depan sepertinya sudah umum diterapkan manufaktur. Namun, untuk penumpang belakang, sedikit sekali yang mencurahkan perhatiannya. Untuk mengakomodir keselamatan penumpang belakang, Toyota akhirnya menciptakan rear window curtain shield airbag pertama di dunia yang diaplikasi pada mobil kecil iQ.

Airbag ini menggunakan sistem Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) untuk melindungi bagian belakang kepala penumpang baris kedua, sehingga dapat meminimalkan risiko cedera serius saat terjadinya tabrakan dari belakang. Airbag ini akan mengembang dari bagian roof lining di atas jendela belakang dan membentuk tirai pelindung. Lebih jauh lagi, Toyota menambah airbag untuk penumpang belakang yang dipasang di konsol tengah kursi belakang (rear-seat center airbag), untuk mencegah cedera serius benturan sesama penumpang.

Eco-Driving
Teknologi hybrid memang dapat mengurangi konsumsi bahan bakar, tetapi kemampuan itu dapat hilang bila gaya dalam mengemudi bersifat agresif. Untuk mensosialisasikan prinsip eco-driving, Honda melakukan terobosan dengan mengenalkan Ecological Drive Assist System (EDAS). Sistem ini bertujuan membantu pengemudi dalam menerapkan prinsip mengemudi eco-driving.

EDAS diaplikasi oleh mobil hybrid Insight. EDAS memiliki tiga fitur kunci dan yang pertama adalah mode ECON. Setelah menekan tombol ECON di dashboard, secara otomatis mode ini akan mengontrol kinerja mesin, fungsi transmisi (CVT), dan komponen powertrain lainnya agar lebih ekonomis. Di sini efektivitas mesin akan lebih maksimal dengan mengatur fungsi AC, memperpanjang jeda berhentinya mesin saat mobil berhenti, dan memaksimalkan kemampuan pengisian ulang baterai saat pengereman.

Fitur kedua adalah fungsi pembimbingan melalui indikator berwarna pada speedometer. Jika muncul warna hijau sebagai background, berarti Anda telah mengemudi secara efisien. Jika warna latarnya berubah biru, maka gaya mengemudi Anda membuat konsumsi bahan bakar lebih boros. Fitur terakhir adalah fitur penilaian. Setelah Anda berkendara, komputer akan menampilkan sebuah grafik pohon kecil di layar Multi Information Display (MID). Makin ekonomis cara mengemudi, maka makin banyak daun yang tumbuh di pohon tersebut. Terlebih bila mengemudi secara sempurna atau sangat ekonomis, maka tak hanya daun yang muncul tapi juga gambar bunga. Terakhir ketika kunci kontak dimatikan, MID akan memunculkan nilai yang dicapai pengemudi.

Well, semua hal diatas umumnya merupakan deskripsi yang cukup tepat tentang Jepang, khususnya untuk hal yang disebutkan terakhir. Sebagai salah satu produsen otomotif terbesar, Jepang berhasil mengekspor produk-produknya ke berbagai negara dibelahan dunia ini. Bahkan berhasil menguasai pasar di beberapa negara. Berbagai jenis kendaraan bermotor, baik roda empat maupun roda dua dari berbagai jenis turut meramaikan pasar otomotif dunia. Selain mobil atau motor itu sendiri, ada satu hal lagi yang juga cukup menarik untuk dicermati, yaitu gaya modifikasi dari negeri matahari terbit tersebut. Gaya dandanan yang kini juga mulai ikut mewabah di berbagai belahan dunia, termasuk Indonesia.

yamaha majestyMirip dengan trend berpakaian berupa Harajuku style yang selalu dilirik oleh para pemerhati fashion di dunia, gaya modifikasi otomotif, baik untuk mobil maupun motor di Jepang juga banyak dijadikan acuan untuk diikuti. Contohnya untuk modifi kasi motor. Masyarakat Jepang saat ini sedang gemar mendandani motor berjenis big scooter. Sebutlah merek-merek seperti Yamaha Majesty atau Suzuki Burgman. Dandanan yang mereka terapkan umumnya bergaya fancy. Dengan permainan warna yang catchy dipadu unsur-unsur candy tone seperti putih solid, putih mutiara, orange, baby blue, kuning, dan banyak lagi. Ada juga yang menambahkan grafi s airbrush di sekujur body motornya. Tak hanya itu, aksen chrome juga sering dijumpai di scooter-scooter andalan mereka. Hal ini sekaligus menegaskan kesan mewah di motor tersebut.

Pengaplikasian aksesoris-aksesoris lain seperti knalpot dual pipe (yang juga beraksen chrome) makin menguatkan aura itu. Saking maraknya modifi kasi big scooter di Jepang, salah satu rumah modifi kasi mobil yang cukup terkenal yaitu Fabulous, secara khusus sudah menyediakan aksesoris pendukung untuk beberapa merek big scooter! Di Indonesia, terutama Jakarta, mendandani big scooter juga mulai marak dilakukan. Walaupun belum seekstrim di Jepang, namun jika diperhatikan kini di jalanan mulai banyak berkeliaran berbagai big scooter yang sudah berwana-warni, seperti Suzuki Burgman berkelir putih kombinasi hitam, atau Piaggio X9 dengan warna menyala, dan masih banyak lagi. Kita tunggu saja modifi kasi berikutnya.

honda scooterUntuk mobil, contohnya adalah gaya dandanan JDM atau Japanese Domestic Market, gaya dandanan yang sebenarnya dibuat berdasarkan adanya aturan-aturan yang diterapkan oleh pemerintah Jepang terhadap pemilik mobil di negaranya. Gaya JDM ini sebenarnya sangat menarik dan applicable sekali untuk diterapkan di Indonesia, karena penampakan luar mobil-mobil Jepang ini tak ubahnya seperti mobil-mobil produksi missal pada umumnya. Namun jika diperhatikan lebih detil, akan terlihat bagian-bagian kecil yang memang berbeda dan terlihat menarik. Contohnya dari sisi eksterior. Warna body umumnya didominasi warna solid seperti putih, hitam, merah, atau kuning. Namun warna metalik seperti biru dan silver juga tak haram untuk dilirik. Lalu ada penambahan lips spoiler, side skirt atau duck tail minimalis di sekujur body. Bahan dan rona Karbon Kevlar juga umumnya cukup mendominasi untuk bagian-bagian itu tadi. Tak jarang kap mesin asli diganti dengan menggunakan kap mesin aftermarket berbahan Karbon Kevlar yang tujuannya selain untuk mereduksi bobot kendaraan, juga tampil gaya.

lowriderUntuk sektor kaki-kaki, umumnya telah mengalami penggantian suspensi dengan produk aftermarket. Namun penyunatan ketinggian ini juga tidak terlalu ekstrim, cukup terlihat manis dan masih nyaman dan aman dikendarai. Merek-merek seperti Eibach, Tein, Showa, dan sebagainya masih menjadi pilihan untuk bagian suspensi. Untuk bagian rodanya, velg umumnya diganti dengan velg berbahan ringan namun dengan ukuran yang tidak terlalu besar. Contohnya antara ring 15 sampai 16 yang dipadu dengan ban berprofi l rendah seperti 45 atau 50 namun dengan tapak yang agak lebar, seperti 205. Enkei, Volk racing, Rays Engineering, atau Buddy Club merupakan velg-velg favorit dari gaya JDM ini.

Penggantian peranti rem berupa disc brake dan kalipernya dengan produk aftermarket yang lebih mumpuni juga banyak dilakukan. Merek-merek seperti Endless atau Project masih menjadi pilihan. Penggantian peranti rem ini bukan tanpa alasan, sebab mobil-mobil ini umumnya telah mengusung teknologi tinggi di dalam kompartemen mesinnya. Inilah yang membedakan dari mobil-mobil produksi massal. Turbocharger atau Supercharge turut dicangkokkan ke mesin yang sebelumnya telah diupgrade. Pengaplikasian piggyback chip merupakan hal yang lumrah untuk modifi kasi ini. Engine swap (penggantian mesin) dengan mesin yang grade atau tenaganya lebih tinggi juga merupakan hal yang wajar dilakukan. Namun, penggantian atau peningkatan tenaga mesin ini tetap harus ramah lingkungan karena pemerintah Jepang sangat ketat dalam tes uji emisi di negaranya. Tak lupa pengaplikasian strut bar di kompartemen mesin untuk menunjang kerja suspensi agar handling mobil menjadi lebih sempurna.

scooter baseBeralih ke bagian interior. Umumnya jok telah diganti dengan tipe racing atau bucket seat. Merek-merek seperti Recaro, Bride atau Sparco masih mendominasi. Penggantian steering wheel, shift knob dan pedal set juga merupakan hal pelengkap yang wajib dilakukan. Tak lupa safety belt dan peranti pendukung lain seperti tachometer, oil pressure gauge atau boost meter turbo juga diaplikasikan di interior yang tak hanya untuk menambah gaya, tapi juga fungsional.

Bila diperhatikan secara keseluruhan, tampilan mobil-mobil bergaya JDM memang cukup minimalis. Namun tenaga yang tersimpan di balik wajah minimalis tersebut umumnya cukup bengis. Dan alasan mengapa disebut cukup applicable adalah karena mobil-mobil yang didandani merupakan mobil-mobil mass product yang juga banyak berkeliaran di Indonesia. Bahkan di beberapa toko aksesoris di Jakarta, seperti daerah Kemayoran dan Kedoya, sudah ada yang menyediakan aksesoris-aksesoris JDM ini. Tinggal disesuaikan dengan mobil anda masing-masing.

Dandanan Japanese Style memang terbukti cukup menarik untuk dijadikan acuan. Jadi tak hanya gaya berpakaiannya saja, tapi juga gaya modifikasi utuk kendaraan. Tertarik untuk mencoba? Atau mungkin Anda sudah menjadi salah satu diantaranya?
